This is a short video I made in 1994, an odd little sci-fi tale of a person who gets exactly what he asks for and ends up regretting it. It was a fun project, and I had always intended for it to be the pilot for the proposed series I now call, "Starship Detritus."
This Quicktime Movie was originally edited in Premiere (3.0) and compressed for playback on CD-Rom, and working at this resolution enabled me to include 3-D graphics (anyone remember Infini-D?) and compositing effects which before that time were unavailable to someone working on a nonexistant budget. Originally compressed using Cinepak, it was recompressed using Sorensen to better stream it on the web. Eventually, it'll need to be recompressed to something more modern, but it still seems to play OK.
Time and technology have clearly marched on since I finished this project all those years ago. I continue to write, direct, and work in postproduction, and have a couple of new project in development, one of which is, funnily enough, a series incorporating one of the characters from this very movie. The ideas behind Starship Detritus remained firmly entrenched in my imagination, and I look forward to unveiling a new, animated series on the web.
But that's still a ways off. For now, sit back and enjoy this early "prequel" episode.
