This is a Quicktime Fast Start movie intended for playback at 300Kbs or higher.

About the Video

This is a short video I made in 1994, an odd little sci-fi tale of a person who gets exactly what he asks for and ends up regretting it. It was a fun project, and I had always intended for it to be the pilot for the proposed series I now call, "Starship Detritus."

This Quicktime Movie was originally intended for playback on CD-Rom, and working at this resolution enabled me to include 3-D graphics and compositing effects which before that time were unavailable to someone working on a nonexistant budget. Originally compressed using Cinepak, it's been recompressed using Sorensen to better stream it on the web.

Time and technology have marched on since I finished this project all those years ago. I continue to work doing writing and post-production, and have completed four feature-length scripts (one of which is currently in production). Still, the ideas behind Starship Detritus have remained firmly entrenched in my imagination. I've continued to develop and expand on the original short by writing a pilot and three additional half-hour episodes, along with a show guide and an outline of the first eight episode season. In the meantime, the emergence of streaming video on the web as well as the affordability of DVD authoring have made me reconsider my original plan of producing an independently financed and distributed science-fiction series.

But that is in the future. For now, sit back and enjoy this early "prequel" episode! And watch this page for more developments with Starship Detritus!
